The Cedar Lane Elementary School PTA supports approximately 750 students in a diverse community with students representing thirty unique countries. We promote the welfare of all children in our community; raise the standards of home life; advocate for laws that further the education, physical and mental health of all children; promote the collaboration and engagement of families; and engage the public to secure the physical, mental and emotional and social well-being of all children.
More specifically, we are an extremely active organization. On a daily basis we support students by providing additional resources (technology, software, recess equipment, classroom supplies, library resources, etc.); we provide educational and engaging extra-curricular opportunities like math and science Olympiads, a running club, and after-school programs like robotics, chorus, art, cooking, and drama. In addition, we strive to engage all students through art and talent competitions, quarterly celebrations, and after-school extracurriculars and events. The PTA-organized community events include festivals, scavenger hunts, movie nights, and BINGO nights, among others, all coordinated to increase the engagement of families in their child’s education.
In each instance we ensure every child who wants to participate can do so, regardless of their financial situation. Indeed, approximately 120-150 students are low income requiring free or reduced lunches. We support these students by subsidizing the cost of field trips, book fair purchases, admission to events, supply purchases, and general every day requirements as needed. We also have approximately 180 students who are English learners. We support these students through translation tools, additional supplies, and technology and software purchases.
